Can't Hold Back

Over the Easter holidays I was asked to film two music videos for a local hip hop artist Reggiimental, "Cant Hold Back" & "Adidas Trainers"

I'm currently in the middle of editing the videos but whilst filming, I found lighting the rooms to be the hardest part in Adidas Trainers.

Through the weeks of this project our group came up with multiple ideas, mostly involving filming at night. Due to a few problems, we had to film closer to the deadline and this resulted in us having to think of a new idea entirely. I enjoyed the project on a whole, but the group didn't have very defined roles as everything was planned last minute. I think the audio compliments the movements a lot and this was the main focus when editing, slightly altering the music or video so that the footsteps happen in time to the sounds.

3D Animation

This animation shows their company logo/character refusing to leave his seat to turn the tv on, when he finally reaches the remote control, it doesn't work. I think this animation relies heavily on the sound to create the comedy, with sound effects each time he walks & angry noises from the character itself. Film + Animation

This animation is a little more subtle, complimenting the poet as oppose to being entirely animation like the example above. It uses lots of flourishing elements, with the person sometimes interacting with the animation.

Featuring the slam skills of poetic performer Ainsley Burrows, the spot presents a powerfully narrated first-person story of one man's journey to greatness.

Pierre Michel - Polar

Pierre Michel was offered what most artists dream of from a client: carte blanche to create whatever he envisioned. The project was to create the opening for the French film festival "Polar dans la ville" ("Polar in the town"), which would be printed to 35mm film and projected at about 40 cinemas around Paris as well as on television.

I think the sound effects and music are as vital to the final peice as the amazing imagery and visual effects. In each video the sound keeps the pace of the video, building up towards the ending, good sound seems to be overlooked in most videos of this style. The entire thing was created in after effects, using several particle systems to simulate rain and clouds, with footage of the character shot against a green screen.

Pixilation - Skate

When looking for inspiration for the animation, I decided to team up with Tom as we had similar ideas. On the day of shooting, we ran into a few problems with getting the correct speed of the skateboard & making sure the positions of the skateboard were equal each frame.

Once we were happy with a few test shots we decided to experiment with camera angles, panning the camera around the person, onto the road. We also experimented with a first person view briefly. It lacked any specific storyline but it was good to try stop motion again & playing with different ideas to see what looked most appealing.

Upon finishing the animation, we came to the conclusion it would have been more exciting to have had a target/story or perhaps something to advertise.

The majority of this video was shot against a green screen background and then composited on top of the pictures/footage. This allowed for much more precise movements, posing the figure on a desk and using supports for the mid air movements. Making of Black Ox Skateboard

New Template Design

After checking through some of the coding of the default blogger template, I decided to create my own. I wanted to go for a minimal & dark theme, using paintbrush strokes as the content header and footer.

On completing the template it lacked the layout/feel of a blog so I decided to redesign it to the current template you're viewing now. Most of my research and inspiration are in video format so I decided to make the blog 700pixels wide, allowing me to display vimeo videos in a larger size.

Whiteboard Animation

Our first group task was to create a whiteboard animation at 12 frames per second. This involves drawing out each frame and taking a photograph, eventually compiling them together to created a fluid animation.

The target of the animation was to move a box from one side of the board to the other. With a house/obstacle in the middle. We went through lots of crazy ideas which ended with pacman running across the screen. The groups animations can be seen here.
